Situated on a low rise of ground in gently undulating countryside with a nearby possible tower house (TN030-022----) to the W. This castle was held in 1641 by Lord Ikerrin and John Purcell as trustees for William O'Meagher (O'Meagher 1890, 122; Stout 1984, 134). Described in the OS Letters as an 'old castle measuring 30ft 6in [9.2m] N-S by 24ft 6in [7.4m] E-W with walls 4ft 6in [1.3m] thick, standing no more than 18ft [5.4m] in height' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 85). Only a portion of the S wall (L 2m; H 3m; wall T 0.85m) of the castle survives with grass-covered wall-footings elsewhere.
