What is recorded here

According to the Civil Survey (1654-56) in 'Ballylishine…standeth one stump of a Castle with any buildings', which in 1640 was in the proprietorship of 'John Birraghgra of Balylissine Irish Papist' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 235). It is also depicted on the Down Survey (1654-6) map and appears to be in the northernmost part of the townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
