What is recorded here

Situated on the NE-facing lower slope of a ridge. A circular area (diam. 31m N-S; 32m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.12m), a fosse (Wth 3.7m; D 0.7m) and an outer bank (Wth 4.3m; ext. H 1.64m). The site slopes quite steeply to the NW. A roughly circular raised area (diam. c. 13m) with a concave centre (diam. 6m) occupies the upper portion of the interior. An entrance gap though the inner and outer banks in the NE quadrant (Wth 3m and 1.8m respectively), may be broken through. There is a causeway (Wth 3.3m) over the fosse in the SW quadrant and the inner and outer banks are denuded in this area. Elsewhere both the inner and outer banks are fairly intact with a U-shaped intervening fosse. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
