What is recorded here

Situated on a break in the lower NE-facing slope of Knockadiggeen with a stream flowing c. 30m to the NW. A slightly oval-shaped enclosure (diam. 28.5m N-S; 35.2m E-W) defined by a high bank (Wth 4m; int. H 1.57m; ext. H 2.07m) and a wide, U-shaped outer fosse (Wth 6m; D 1.76m) with counterscarp bank (ext. H 2.5m). Both fosse and banks reduce towards the downslope NE quadrant where the inner bank is reduced to scarp and there is no fosse or outer bank. A NE-SW field bank joins the outer bank in the NW sector. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
