What is recorded here

Situated on a break in a SW-facing slope of a steep hill, in pasture. A roughly circular enclosure (diam. 30m E-W), defined by a bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.77m; ext. H 1.04m) and external fosse (Wth 3.8m; D 0.72m). The site is transected in the NW quadrant by a NE-SW field bank. The NW sector is quite denuded where the bank and fosse have been much reduced. A shallow quarry site, c. 20m diam., now grassed over, lies 6m NE of the NE quadrant. The interior slopes to SW. There is a possible causewayed entrance at SW though this is heavily overgrown with brambles. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
