What is recorded here

Situated on a gradual N-facing slope in pasture. Not indicated on the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map but shown as a circular enclosure on the latest ed. The site has been levelled but is still visible as a roughly circular area (diam. c. 23.4m N-S; 25.5m E-W) defined by a poorly preserved bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.18m). A dip around the exterior indicates a possible fosse and there is a possible outer bank visible at W. The site was inspected in 1958 and classified as a ringfort (OPW files). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
