What is recorded here

Situated on the SW-facing slope of a hill, in pasture. A platform ringfort (diam. c. 29m N-S) with traces of an enclosing bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.55-1.5m), largely reduced to a scarp downslope. There is a slight suggestion of an outer fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 0.4m) in the SW quadrant and a small clearing at NNW revealed a broad, shallow, U-shaped fosse. The interior and most of the exterior, except at SW, is heavily overgrown with brambles and scrub. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
