What is recorded here

Situated on low natural rise of ground in an upland area with extensive views in all directions. Indicated as the site of a castle on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded that the 'site of a castle is also pointed out in Ballygown townland near Dean Holme's house but no portion of it exists at present' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 119). Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
