What is recorded here

Situated on a N-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area. A raised circular area enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 1m; ext. H 2m) with external stone-facing visible at N where a stone field wall intersects the bank. An old laneway intersects the bank at S. It was impossible to examine the site interior due to the dense cover of vegetation. According to the OS Letters the interior of the ringfort was used as a burial place for unbaptised infants (TN026-043002)(O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 3, 121). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
