What is recorded here

Situated on a slight N-facing slope in gently undulating pastureland. A circular enclosure (diam. 41.1m N-S; 42m E-W) defined by a scarp (H 1.1m) and outer fosse (Wth 5.5m; ext. H 0.7m). A possible outer bank (Wth 1.7m; ext. H 0.4m) is visible only at N and there is a gap in the NW quadrant. A circular drainage ditch was dug into the interior forming a central platform, and the fosse was recut at S and W. The work post-dates the 1956 inspection of the monument (OPW Correspondence Files, 1956). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
