In 2000 archaeological excavation by Donald Murphy revealed a disturbed kiln consisting of two spreads of charcoal, both of which contained a stone setting and could have functioned as flue walls. A date of AD 1486-1644 was obtained from the charcoal layer. Carried out under licence No. 00E0216 (Bennett 2002, 323-4).
