In a family history written by John Dawson Hutchinson in 1846 there is a sketch plan and elevation of the 'Old House at Timoney' and also ground plans of the courtyards and gardens (NLI MSS 12,065, 5, 7, 11). The house appears to be of late seventeenth-century date, with dormer windows, projecting chimneys at either gable, offset chimney stacks and leaded lights. There appears to have been a heraldic device over the doorway, pencilled as 'Lion Rampant' on the sketch elevation. The new house at Timoney was built between 1839 and 1845 and presumably the old house was demolished about this time - it is not marked on the 1st ed. (1840) OS 6-inch map. An insurance policy for the house at Timoney dating to 1775 probably refers to the seventeenth-century house. The policy was for five hundred pounds 'Viz Three hundred pounds on his Dwelling House, Situated at Timoney aforesaid, near Burros in Ossory in the County of Tipperary. Built of Brick & Stone & Slated and Two hundred pounds on the Furniture therein Contained' (NLI MSS 11, 305-384).
