Situated on a hilltop, the summit of which appears to be scarped to form a roughly circular platform (dims. 48m N-S; 56m E-W; H 1.15m) for the castle. The site is indicated as being levelled on both the 1st and 2nd ed. OS 6-inch maps and is mentioned in the Civil Survey as being 'a demolished Castle; the old rotten. Walls standing with two Cabbins' (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 252). No visible trace survives above ground level. The platform on which it stood has been much disturbed in recent years, partially levelled and quarried, giving an uneven surface. A stone, barrel-vaulted icehouse was built into the W side of the platform and is indicated on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map.
