What is recorded here

Watermill depicted on Down Survey (1655-6) map has been located to Ballynavin townland. This appears to be the same watermill described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'A smale water Cornemill uppon a little brooke running through the sd lands' which in 1640 was under the ownership of 'Cormuck mcEgan of Ballyknavine Gent. Conly mcEgan of Keiltiruo Gent. Irish Papists' (Simington 1934, vol.2, 287). Watermill is unlocated within Ballynavin townland. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
