What is recorded here

Situated on a low natural hillock in undulating countryside with poorly drained land immediately to the SW. A raised circular area (diam. 50m E-W) enclosed by a poorly preserved earth and stone bank which has been mainly reduced to a scarp (ext. H 0.6-1.2m) with slight traces of an external fosse (Wth 3m; D 0.2m) best preserved at S. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 5m) at SW and a modern gap at N (Wth 5.5m). The external face of the bank at N has some evidence of drystone wall-facing. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
