What is recorded here

Watermill indicated on the Downe Survey maps was tentatively located at the site of a mill indicated as 'Old Flour Mill' on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map. On the 2nd (1903) ed. the mill is indicated as 'Flour Mill (Disused)'. Field inspection in 1995 established that there are no surface remains visible of the mill. It may or may not have been the location of the seventeenth-century watermill. The mill is shown on the Down Survey Map as being located at the junction of the river with the townland boundary of Kilcommon in the location where the 'Old Flour Mill' is indicated on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Based on this cartographic evidence it is likely that the 'Old Flour Mill' was located on the site of the mill indicated on the Down Survey map.
