No surface remains visible. Not marked on any edition of the 6" OS 6-inch map. This site was mistakenly identified by SMR and placed around Ballymacegan House while the reference by Smyth to a castle at Ballymacegan is in fact a reference to Redwood Castle (TN001-001-----) (Smyth 1985, 123) and not any castle at Ballymacegan House.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
