Enclosure in Annaghbeg OR Monasterredan

In pasture, at the E end of a low elevation on the shores of Lough Gara. A roughly D-shaped area (dims. 43.5m N-S) with a straight SSE side (L c. 55m ENE-WSW) is defined SSW-NW by a broad low rise of earth and stone (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.65m) topped by hazel and blackthorn bushes, by a slight grassy rise NNW-NE and by a low stony scarp (H 0.55m) obscured by overgrowth NE-ESE. The straight SSE side is defined by a broadly sloping scarp (H 0.7m) covered with a tumble of stones, probably the remains of stone facing. Sections of a stone-faced scarp can be seen elsewhere along the immediate shoreline. The interior slopes slightly down to SSE; a slight linear depression (Wth c. 1.5m) which extends E-W across the N half may be the remains of a drain. The perimeter of the enclosure is engulfed in hazel, blackthorn and bramble scrub, almost impenetrable in places.
