Burnt mound in Treanmore (corran By.)

Located on the W bank of a stream, in a shallow, boggy, rush-grown valley at the foot of the NE side of Kesh Corann. A passage tomb (SL040-006001-) crowns the top of a steep-sided hill which rises immediately to W of the stream. There is a rath (SL040-007----) 100m to SE on the low ridge that borders the E side of the stream. A layer of burnt stone in dark soil with charcoal inclusions is exposed in section immediately beneath the sod line in the W bank of the N-flowing stream. The nature and extent of the layer is uncertain as it is visible only along a short section (L 1m) of the stream edge which has been eroded by cattle. A slight rise in ground level (L 2-3m N-S; Wth 1-1.5m) is evident in a narrow strip parallel to the stream, but it is not possible to trace the original limits/outline of the possible burnt mound.
