Not inidcated — Carricknahorna West

In rough pasture, in the Bricklieve mountains, located at the SE end on top of a limestone ridge. The ridge forms a flat topped, roughly oval island of raised ground (c. 200m NW–SE; c. 90m NE–SW), rising several meters above an undulating valley of rough pasture and bog. The ridge is defined on its perimeter by a vertical escarpment of exposed limestone, which is several meters high and relatively sheer at the E-S and W sides, but in parts at SW and at N-NE forms an easily accessible terraced slope. It is overlooked 50m to N, 100m to E, and 200m to SW by much larger, higher ridges defined by steep, limestone cliffs. There are excellent views in all directions from the enclosure, in particular, to N along a narrow valley which provides a routeway between the ridges, and immediately to SE to a broad gap which provides a natural routeway out of the mountains to lowlying grassland at S. This consists of an oval area (21m NE–SW; 16m NW–SE) defined by a stone bank/wall. The stone bank is evident evident as a low, moss and sod-covered stony rise (Wth 1.8-2m; H 0.2-0.3m). The interior is flat and not raised above exterior ground level, and the surface is uneven and broken by low moss-covered hummocks of limestone bedrock. The outline of the enclosure is not easily discerned amidst the proliferation of irregular, moss-covered hummocks of limestone bedrock which cover the plateau surface. Immediately to SW is the barely discernible outline of a possible enclosure (SL040-246001-) defined by a gapped line of moss-covered stones, and distinguished by its relatively stone-free interior. The two enclosures are not conjoined; there is appears to be a slight gap of less than a meter between their respective enclosing walls.
