Mentioned in 1836 as ‘Tober Maine’ and associated with St Maine, who is said to have built the nearby monastery (SL040-171001-), and although the saint’s day was not remembered locally it was thought to be in August (OSL, 155-6). There are no visible remains of this holy well. In 1942-44 it was recorded that no pilgrimages had taken place to it within the memory of the oldest living resident and that there were no known cures (ITA). A stream flows SE from the well site to ‘O’Rourke’s Ford (SL040-170002-) c. 80m to the SSE. A saint’s stone (SL040-170003-) is said to have been nearby, adjacent to the stream.
