Standing stone in Carricknahorna West

In rough, heather-covered upland pasture in the Bricklieve Mountains, located in a shallow natural hollow on the E side of a broad plateau on top of a NNE−SSW ridge. The stone stands close to the break of slope on the E side of the ridge where ground falls away steeply into a narrow valley. It is overlooked immediately to S by a higher level of the ridge top. Upright block of limestone (H c. 2m; L 1.73m NE−SW at base; T max. c. 1.05m at base) which narrows from a broad base to a pointed top, giving the stone a pronounced triangular shape. The stone has a rough surface, partly colonised by lichen, moss and grass. There are two passage tombs (SL040-101----; SL040-102----) on a parallel ridge to E; it is possible that these were visible in the past from the stone but they are now low, heather-covered mounds and cannot be seen. Two other passage tombs (SL040-095----; SL040-096----) are located on ridge tops c. 440m to NNW and 340m to NW respectively, but are not visible from the standing stone.
