Wood-Martin (1887-8, 268-9) noted 'near Chaffpool (the residence of Captain J. W. Armstrong, R.N.), are two megaliths [see SL038-131----], still observable'. Also noted in 1836 as a 'Giant's Cave or Grave' (OSNB, vol. 1, 19). Exact locations are not known but the monuments may have been destroyed due to extensive limestone quarrying N of the ruins of Chaffpool House.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
