What is recorded here

In pasture, built into the W-facing slope of a low rise. The remains of an oval area (36m N-S; 30.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 0.4m) N-ESE and by a scarp ESE-S and W-N. The bank is levelled S-W. An external flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 7m; D 1m) is evident NW-SE. The W portion of the interior is raised c. 0.25m above the external ground level and the E portion is cut into the upslope. However, the grass-covered interior retains a slight slope down to W. An ENE-WSW field boundary crosses the S half of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
