What is recorded here

In poorly drained pasture, on the W-facing slope of a low rise. A raised oval area (26m N-S; 16m E-W) defined by a slight trace of an earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.5m) along the S arc and by a scarp (H 0.6m) along the N arc. There is a possible entrance (Wth 2m) at E. There is a depression (Wth 4m) in the interior and a second larger semicircular hollow (7m x 6m) on the W side may be the remains of 'a large limekiln hole at W edge' noted during a previous site inspection in 1988 (SMR (1989) file). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
