What is recorded here

In gently undulating poorly drained pasture. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (diam. c. 30m) abutting a field boundary to E; the area of the enclosure is indicated as a quarry and the name 'Dooneen (site of)' is added on the 1914 OS 6-inch map. It is not visible at ground level. A possible enclosure (SL034-008002-) lies c. 50m to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
