The Annals of the Four Masters record that in AD 1248 'A castle was erected by Mac William Burke at Ath Angaile in Corran' . In the year 1270 'the castle of Aith Angaile was demolished by O'Conor'. The exact location of this castle is unknown. (MacDonagh 1936, 62)
