What is recorded here

In 1836 it was noted that there were traces of an 'Old Burying Ground' around Ballynaglogh church (SL033-140001-) (OSNB vol. 1, 226). In the 1930s it was recorded that burials had taken place here within the past hundred years but the graveyard had then been cleared away to make a garden for the Taaffe family; bones and tombstones were occasionally unearthed (MacDonagh n.d., vol. 18, 35-6). No visible remains of it are evident at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
