A mound of 'ashes and cinders' 30 feet [9.14m] in diameter by 15 inches [0.38m] in height was discovered by Mr John Mannen in 1955 about 10 feet [3.04m] below the surface of the bog (NMI). This possible fulacht fia has not been precisely located but it has been established that it is in that part of Carrowreagh townland that is on OS 6-inch map 32.
