Indicated — Kilvarnet North

In undulating pasture, on the summit of a knoll. A square platform (16.5m N-S; c. 16.5m E-W) with a smaller subrectangular enclosure or annexe (c.12.5m E-W; 10.3m N-S) appended to its E side. The square platform is defined on the S and W sides and at the NW corner by a scarp (H 1m) with a slight internal lip (H 0.1-0.2m). On the N side the enclosing element consists of a very degraded gapped sod-covered stony rise (Wth c. 1-1.2m; H 0.2m). On the E side the platform is poorly defined by a low irregular rise. Immediately outside the N bank the ground is uneven and disturbed in appearance with one shallow subrectangular depression (c. 4m E-W). Outside the scarp at S is a low terrace (Wth 3.4m; ext. H 0.2m). A shallow fosse exists at the base of the scarp on the W side. The interior is level and raised on the S and W sides to compensate for the hillslope. Shallow depressions were noted in the NW (diam. c. 2m) and SE (diam. c. 4m) quadrants of the interior. The junction between the annexe and the moated site is an area of disturbed and uneven ground. The interior of the annexe slopes down to E with the natural slope of ground and is enclosed on the N side by an earthen bank (Wth 1.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.6m) with a break (Wth 5m) at the W end. The N side of the annexe is in line with the N side of the main enclosure. The E side is defined by a scarp (H 0.6m). A large now overgrown quarry has cut into the S side of the annexe making it impossible to determine if the annexe once extended to the full width of the moated site.
