What is recorded here

In pasture, on top of a ridge. A circular area (diam. 20m) defined along the S arc by an earthen bank evident as a low rise (Wth 4m; ext. H 0.8m). A band of rushes (Wth 3m) may indicate the line of a silted-up external fosse. The rath is visible in an aerial photograph (GSIAP, G 290-89) with a differential growth pattern indicating a bank on the S arc and an external fosse all round. There is another rath (SL027-142002-) in same field c. 50m to S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
