What is recorded here

On the top of a ridge with excellent views in all directions. A raised circular area (diam. 21m) defined by remains of an earthen bank (Wth 3.4m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1m) ENE-SSE and by a scarp (H 1m) elsewhere. Traces of an external fosse are evident all round as a slight depression (Wth 2m) marked by a dense growth of rushes. The interior is covered with a dense growth of irises. Field boundaries lie immediately to N and E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
