Church (in Ruins) — Killoran North

In wet pasture, on top of a low rise, c. 100m SE of Killoran North Lough; in the E half of Killoran graveyard (SL025-112002-). The ivy-covered ruin of a rectangular church of which only the E and S walls stand. Built of roughly coursed stone, the walls are heavily encased with ivy. The E wall (L c. 8m) is broken off just short of the NE corner. In its centre is a window embrasure with a single light. This is flanked by two wall-presses on the internal wall-face. The S wall (L c. 21.5m) is broken off short of the SW corner. Roughly centrally placed in it is a doorway, missing its surround, but an internal edge stone on the W side survives. This block of sandstone is decorated with a plain roll-moulding (M. A. Timoney 2002d, 178). There is a window embrasure near the W end of this wall, which contains a piece of moulded stone, and another similar embrasure near its E end. The ruin is that of the medieval parish church of Killoran. A branch of an ancient road (SL025-159----) extends c. 230m to the SE from it and the graveyard.
