What is recorded here

In pasture, on a level area on a gentle S-facing slope. A slightly raised circular area (diam. c. 31m) enclosed by a collapsed sod-covered stone wall (Wth 3m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.75m), topped by a modern drystone wall NW-SE. Immediately to the S is a field boundary on an E-W axis and immediately to W is a disused field boundary on a N-S axis. Three hollows (max. dims. 5m x 3m; D 0.7m) were noted in the wall at SW, probably the result of stones being robbed. The interior is strewn with sod-covered stones; the remains of a hut site (SL025-083001-) are visible in the NW quadrant. There is a hut site (SL025-082----) c. 40m to W of cashel and a small coniferous plantation immediately to E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
