What is recorded here

In pasture, on a low rise at the N end of a long narrow field. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an embanked circular area (diam. c. 20m). This rath is now partially levelled and obscured by dense overgrowth. Remains consist of a circular area (23m E-W) defined by a slightly curved field boundary SW-WNW and by an arc of scarp N-SE. The E half of the interior is crossed on a N-S axis by a farm trackway and field boundary. In the W half of the interior is a slightly raised area (12m N-S) with a depression (Wth 3m; D 0.5m), probably the result of recent disturbance, extending c. 5m to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
