Situated in marsh c. 20m NW of a bend in the Ballysadare River. The remains consist of a central pear-shaped sunken area (15m E-W; 27m N-W; D c. 1-1.2m) with the narrow end opening to the N. It is enclosed by a raised, flat berm (W c. 5m) and external bank (W c. 5m; H. 1-1.5m). The bank is best preserved along the E, S and W sides and fades out gradually at the N end where the depression opening is situated. The E side of the monument was planted with trees in 2000 as part of the formal landscaping of the area following on the erection of the art work 'Regeneration' installed after the completion of the N4 roadworks. The exact nature of this feature is unknown and the possibility that it is of modern construction cannot be ruled out. The sides of the depression are relatively steep and it is possible that a pre-existing raised enclosure had its centre excavated. The inland promontory fort excavated by C. Mount in 1994 lies c. 150m to the WSW.
