What is recorded here

The arc of an ecclesiastical enclosure, as indicated on the 1913 OS 6-inch map, may have been preserved in the field boundaries to the S and W of the church (SL020-109001-) and graveyard (SL020-109002-) (see Keeley 1998, 4 and fig. 3). Evidence from the map suggests that the enclosure was D-shaped with the straight side formed by the Ballysadare River. The field boundaries in the area to the S of the graveyard may have incorporated part of an outer enclosing element, as well as a possible entrance avenue and internal divisions. These field boundaries and structure indicated on the 1913 OS 6-inch map, were levelled in the late 1980s (M. B. Timoney 2002, 149). An Augustinian abbey (SL020-108----) and a silver and lead mine (SL020-107----) lie c. 250m and c. 500m to the W respectively. Two enclosures (SL020-109006- and SL020-109014-) lie within and were possibly part of the monastic settlement. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
