What is recorded here

Most of the structure has been removed leaving only the E gable (int. W 5.40m, H c.4m) which is constructed of mortared limestone blocks and flags. This has a light from which the carved stones have been removed and to the right of this on the interior side of the wall is a niche (OS Letters, 63-4, 140, OS Name Books, 93, Wood-Martin 1882, 8, O'Rorke 1890, 437). The name 'Teampull na gcailleachh dubh (Church of the black nuns) suggests that this may have been a medieval nunnery. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 30th July 2013

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
