What is recorded here

In a thicket of deciduous trees and overgrowth, situated within a small basin of marshy ground fed by springs and enclosed by higher ground from SE-W. A flat-topped, circular mound (19.8m E-W; 19.3m N-S; H 0.55m at S; 0.7m at N) composed of densely packed, shattered sandstone within a charcoal-rich matrix. A hint of a depression on the lower SSE side of the mound probably indicates the location of the trough. The mound forms an island of sod-covered dry ground encircled by springs and soft, wet ground. There is a holy well (SL019:141001-) c. 10m to SW. Attached image: SL019-230----_01.JPG viewed from S Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 12 May 2011
