What is recorded here

Situated on top of a S-facing slope overlooking a ford in a small WNW-ESE river a short distance below. Raised circular platform (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 5.4m; int. H 0.85m; ext. c. 3m) with evidence for both internal and external stone revetment. The bank has been incorporated into a field boundary at NNW-SSE. At the foot of the mound from WSW-NW is a wide, deep fosse (Wth 3m; ext. D 1.2m) with a flat-topped rise (Wth. 4.2m; H 1.1m) at its outer lip which may be the remains of an original outer bank. At the foot of the mound at S the fosse changes form to a terrace (Wth 5m) on the steep slope overlooking the stream. The SE quadrant of the interior has been quarried out. A modern farm road skirts the rath at NE-SE. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 19 January 2011
