In 1887, during the construction of a bog road, traces of a number of fires were identified between c. 1.5m and c. 2.1m below the peat. All of the hearths were paved with stones. One large example was semicircular in plan (diam. c. 9m) (Wood-Martin 1887-8, 278-81). Some of these features probably represented the remains of fulachtai fia. They appear to have been partly or entirely destroyed during the road construction. Their exact location was not recorded.
