Situated atop a NE-SW ridge in undulating pasture. Circular, flat-topped mound (diam. at base 13.5m, of top 8.5m; H 1.5m) of earth and stone. It is said that at the time of St. Patrick there was a ferocious boar in Ulster. He was hunted with such vigour that he left Ulster and sought refuge in 'the valley of the Black Pig, a little vale in the county Sligo' where he was finally caught and killed. It is said that he is buried beneath the mound (Wood-Martin 1887-8, 292).
