In a small bay known as Tobernalt Bay, at the W end of Lough Gill, c. 120m from the shoreline.
This crannog is depicted on the 1912 OS 6-inch map as a circular island (diam. c. 7m) named ‘Crannoge’. It was inspected in 2000 in the course of the 'Crannog Survey, Co. Sligo' undertaken by Christina Fredengren.
The crannog appears to consist of a gently domed circular cairn (diam. c. 18m E-W; 18.5m N-S) of firmly-packed angular stones, rising 1.4-1.8m above the lake bed. The exact limits are indistinct. A number of flagstones (max. dim. 0.4-0.5m) were noted on the crannog surface in the NE quadrant.
At the time of visit, the crannog was almost entirely submerged, with a small heap of stones (diam. c. 2m; H 0.4m), holding an upright iron bar, all that was visible above the water surface.
