What is recorded here

Indicated on the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1909) where it is named 'Crannoges (Site of)'. This area of the lake was inspected in 2000 but no evidence of a crannog was found. The source of the OS representation is unknown though it may well be the reference in Woodmartin (1886, 243-5) which records a timber, possibly with a sharpened end, as lying on its side in deep water. Pending further research the evidence is not sufficient to warrant accepting this as a certain crannog. Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 26 June 2013
