What is recorded here

Situated on summit of narrow E-W orientated ridge on slight N-facing slope. Raised circular area (diam. 23m) enclosed by the footings of a drystone wall (Wth 3.15m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.8). There is no fosse visible at ground level. The original external wall facing survives at the base of the footings NW-SSW consisting of large roughly rectangular blocks of limestone (av. dims. L 0.8m; Wth 0.6m; T 0.4m). The site is crossed on the W side by a NNW-SSE orientated drystone field wall that crosses the cashel wall at NW and at SSW. A break (Wth 2m) in the wall footings at ENE marks the position of the original entrance. The N side of the interior is raised to a greater extent than the S side to compensate for the underlying natural slope. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 21 April 2011
