A castle is represented on the Strafford map of c. 1636 at Tobermacloughlin (Strafford 1949, Athlone (145)), the east portion of which was described as Attyduffe (144). In 1641 114 acres in the two areas was owned by the Earl of Clanrickard, and this family retained it through the Cromwellian settlement (ibid. 105). The castle was not encountered.
