A road is marked on the Strafford map of c. 1636 (Simington 1949) running from Stradamery (now Ratawragh) to Clonakill (Cloonakille) on the S side of the Cross River. This is the road from Athlone to Curraghboy, crossing the Cross River at Mullagh. This is the modern road, and there is no sign of an older road anywhere on its length.
