What is recorded here

Depicted as a circular enclosure with a broad bank (int. diam. c. 25m; ext. diam. c. 55m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a S-facing slope. It is not visiible at ground level in pasture, apart from the curve of a field bank and townland boundary with Ballinwully NW-NE (C 48m). An earthen fort at Ballinwilly, which may have been this site, was lost by Robert Nugent to Irish rebels before 1596 (Cronin 1980, 118). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
