What is recorded here

Marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a rectangular enclosure described in gothic lettering as a 'Cashel'. It is situated on a N-facing karst slope. Subcircular grass-covered area (int. dims 33.5m NE-SW; 33.5m NW-SE) defined by the grass-covered remains of a stone wall (Wth 1.2m; H 0.2-0.4m), but the original base of the double-faced wall is visible at NW (Wth 1.8-2m). There is a modern entrance (Wth 2m) at ENE. At the centre is a rectangular house site (RO035-064003-) (int. dims 6m NNE-SSW; 3.2m WNW-ESE) defined by the footings of the two long walls (Wth 1-1.6m). Cashel (RO035-064001-) is c. 100m to the NNE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
