The castle of Ballenderry was held by Edward White in 1585 (Freeman 1936, 164), but had been lost by him to rebels by 1596 (Cronin 1980, 117). On a gentle N-facing slope. According to Gannon (1972), the rath (RO035-009001-) was locally regarded a castle and the rectangular structure in the interior was probably it. It is no longer extant.
